Mud Crab Hatchery Project, Thoduvai

A full scale Mud Crab hatchery (1485 Sq.m) has been constructed, and the rearing of the Broodstock, Artemia Biomass, Larval rearing, Algal & Rotifer sections are carried out in FRP tanks of adequate capacity. Availability of variable natural lighting specific to the rearing requirements has been ensured while designing the hatchery.

Aquaculture Demonstration Farm, Karaikal

Demonstration farm developed in a total land area of 5.6 Ha, comprising of 5 ponds with a total water spread area of 4 Ha and with elevated feeder canals. Individual ponds drain out through the sluice where harvests are carried out. A feed mill which caters the requirement of the farm is also housed in the project.

Domestication of Tiger Shrimp Project, Andaman & Nicobar Islands

A state-of-the-art biosecure facility equipped with Recirculation Aquaculture Systems (RAS) has been created to maintain SPF Tiger Shrimp. The facility comprises of the following components:

  • Pre-Primary & Primary Quarantine Units, Amkunj, Middle Andamans

    Semi Permanent structures have been created with the following facilities
    Pre–Primary unit (250 Sq.m) - 10 cubicles with individual FRP tanks.
    The Primary unit (360 Sq.m) - Masonry tanks connected to RAS.
    Other major infrastructure created at PPQU include Disease Challenge Test unit, Transit Quarantine Block & Breeder holding section (260 Sq.m), Spawning Room (150 Sq.m)

  • Secondary Quarantine Unit (SQU), Kodiaghat, South Andamans

    SQU (1680 Sq.m) – 12 cubicles with individual 15 MT FRP connected to exclusive RAS
    Other major infrastructure created at SQU includes Indoor Algal Lab, Wet lab and Feed preparation unit.

  • Nucleus Breeding Centre, Kodiaghat, South Andamans

    Terrain site with level difference of 38 m has been selected to create a facility with biosecure operations. The Maturation & Nursery Block (2030 Sq.m) located at an elevated area comprises of Maturation & Nursery Units (2 Nos each). Each unit comprises of 6 nos of 15 MT FRP tanks with dedicated RAS. Entry point for these units is only though Shower cubicles.

    Two Grow-out units (1220 Sq.m each) contain raceways of 100 MT (4 nos in each unit) connected to RAS (2 nos in each unit), entry for which is only though Shower cubicles controlled by motion sensor gadgets.

    Other major infrastructure created at NBC includes 1200 MT reservoir connected to ozoniser & filtration units, ETP (665 WSA), Blower Shed, Pump Room, Administration Block (675 Sq.m), Service Block, Store, Incineration unit, Tyre bath etc.

Shrimp Broodstock & Nauplii Production Centre (SBNPC), Gopalpur-on-Sea, Odisha

The Orissa State Shrimp Production and Research Centre (OSSPARC) facility of MPEDA has been modified to create a pilot scale Broodstock Multiplication Centre for P. monodon with the following components: Maturation area (584 Sq.m), Larval Rearing area (468 Sq.m) & algal section (195 Sq.m) has been housed with a high diffused translucent polyethylene roof for maintaining natural grow out conditions in a controlled bio-secure environment.

Technology Transfer Training and Administrative Complex, Sirkali, Tamil Nadu

A state-of-the-art facility comprising of the following have been created: Aquaculture Library (131 Sq.m), Auditorium (129 Sq.m), Museum (178 Sq.m), Pathology Lab (176 Sq.m), Genetics Lab (95 Sq.m) apart from the administrative block of RGCA.

A visiting scientist quarters (280 Sq.m), Trainee Hostel block (378 Sq.m), Canteen & recreation block (280 Sq.m), Director’s Quarters (168 Sq.m), Staff Quarters etc have been proposed to be constructed in the next phase.

Aquatic Quarantine Facility for L. vannamei, Neelankarai, Chennai

A state-of-the-art biosecure Aquatic quarantine facility (743 Sq.m) has been created comprising of 4 quarantine cubicles with independent Recirculation Aquaculture Systems, 3 receiving sections and one packing area. Entry points are provided with shower areas. Other major infrastructure at AQF includes a PCR screening laboratory, a blower room, pump rooms, reservoirs, tyre bath, chiller pad, incinerator room etc.

Presently the quarantine facility is being expanded to create an additional unit with 3 quarantine cubicles with independent Recirculation Aquaculture Systems, 2 receiving sections and a packing area. Entry points are provided with shower areas. The unit also has pump rooms, reservoirs, chiller pad etc.

Artemia Project, Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu

The Artemia cyst and biomass production facility has been developed in a total land area of 6.75 Ha. The farm comprises of 13 nos of Artemia cyst and biomass production ponds of 1648 Sq.m water spread area each, 2 nos of fertilization ponds of 320 Sq.m each, 7 algal ponds (4400 Sq.m), 5 evaporation ponds (4060 Sq.m). The ponds developed have been provided with a clay core / HDPE lining for water retention. An in-house processing unit for cyst processing and packaging has been created within the facility.

Scampi Broodstock Development Project, Vijayawada

The Scampi farm comprises of a Reservoir pond (1.39 Ha), Broodstock holding cluster ponds (18 Nos of 500 sqm), experimental grow-out ponds (36 Nos of 250 sqm), a quarantine unit and an ETP of 0.77 Ha WSA.

The project also has a well established hatchery facility equipped with a quarantine section, rearing unit, a microsurgery laboratory and a PCR laboratory.

Grouper Project, Kodiaghat, Andaman & Nicobar Islands

21 Nos of HDPE Cages of size 3m x 3m x 3.5m depth have been created together with a Cage house (Watchman shed).

Tilapia Project, Vijayawada

Tilapia farm has been developed with a Reservoir pond (0.45 Ha WSA), culture ponds (20 Nos) with a total WSA of 2.97 Ha. A seed production unit (103 Sq.m) & breeding unit (35 Sq.m) have been constructed equipped with FRP tanks & connected with RAS for biosecure operation.

L. vannamei Broodstock Multiplication Centre (TASSPARC), Vishakapatanam

The TASSPARC facility of MPEDA has been modified to create Grow Out blocks (3425 Sq.m) with RCC tanks and constructed a new block (875 Sq.m) equipped with 8 Nos of 50 MT FRP tanks for biosecure operations. All the sections are connected with independent RAS for biosecure operations. Other major infrastructure includes a tyre bath, shower cubicles, ETP etc for biosecure operation.
